Mrs and Mrs A'Court, N8 - Back Garden Landscape

What the client wanted:
Transformation of a standard terrace garden to reflect their ultra-contemporary, designer family home and create useable spaces for entertaining and relaxation. 

The transformation:
Three distinctive garden areas of sun-deck, lawn and BBQ/dining area. Use of natural tones, contrasting materials and organic shapes to create a zen like garden zone which is an extension of their living space.

What the client wanted:
With a new baby on the way, a low-maintenance outdoor-living area which minimalised need for costly restructuring but which made the most of an existing split level space.

And while we are there – a new path and front garden to create more light and space.

The transformation:
A new softwood sun-deck for easy relaxing and overlooking a clean, paved terrace which has multi uses as BBQ area, for loungers or toddler-ball games!
The front garden uses cool slate paving and contemporary planting for a more modern look.

What the client wanted:

To optimise their small and dark garden space, so that it is brighter, lighter and can be enjoyed by their young family and to entertain friends.

The transformation:
Installation of a deck area and artificial lawn provided numerous benefits.



The lawn provides a great, safe and hardwearing play area for the kids (it quickly dries after a down pour) and ensures the grass is always green and bright looking! A deck makes the most of a side alley and area in front of the lawn and provides a good sized dining and entertaining area.

The layout retains areas for planting and borders to bring some naturalness and colour to the garden.

What the client wanted:

This client wanted a low maintenance garden that was contemporary and elegant in appearance but that also functioned well as a family garden and looked good all year round.

The transformation:
We recommended the client use an artificial lawn to create a perfect space for children to play in that was hard-wearing yet looked great throughout the year.

We built around this more formal planting areas and a patio that could be used for entertaining. A key feature is a ‘feature window’ set within a wall. This separates out the garden into two distinct areas (patio and main garden) and at the same time provides views through the garden.

 "We engaged GT to create a fresh, new look for our front and back gardens, which were tired, overgrown and uninspiring. After listening to our requirements, their in-house designer Annie produced a landscape plan, a materials pallette and a planting scheme that accurately reflected our tastes, and achieved the right balance between style and practicality within our budget.

The team of gardeners and bricklayer then set about efficiently making the plans a reality. They were friendly, hard-working and courteous, and respectful of neighbouring boundaries. One aspect which particularly impressed us was their ability to tackle the inevitable unforeseen problems with practical solutions. The quality of the work (which included clearance, landscaping, bricklaying, renovating and building decks, fencing, and finally laying down lawns and planting) was uniformly excellent. We look out front and back onto beautiful gardens which we can finally enjoy. Overall, we are very pleased with the outcome of the project and would highly recommend Garden Transformations."
